Age: 38
Which of these are you? Intellectual / Idealist / Creator / Innovator /
Cyber explorer / Questioner / Philosopher.
Intellectual, Idealist, Creator, Spiritual
Explorer, Questioner, Philosopher
What makes you an intellectual / idealist / creator / innovator / cyber
explorer / questioner / philosopher?
Intellectual: I've studied at Uni and had a broad grounding in most
intellectual disciplines in the social sciences and humanities, etc. But most
importantly, 'what makes me (or anybody) an intellectual', I believe, is the
desire to reflect upon things beyond an initial response, and to strive to see
further by 'standing upon the shoulders of the intellectual giants that have
come before us'.
Idealist: I have always been driven to engage in issues of social
justice because I have a basic belief that ideals of social justice, no matter
how marginalised they may be by at the moment by right wing fundamentalist
conservatives around the world, are worth fighting for.
Creator: I have always enjoyed all forms of writing for creative
expression, but the form I have become most familiar with is script writing. I
have written two plays that have been performed at the Blue Room Theatre and
gone on to tour college campuses around Perth. The first play was a dramatised
biographical account of an urban Aboriginal elder, the second a play I was
commissioned to write to "Combat racism in WA". My current project is a feature
screenplay about quantum consciousness and the afterllife.
Innovator: I have an English patent for a board game I
invented when I was 18. Other than that most innovative ideas I've had have
revolved around how to make driving and urban transportation in general a safer
experience for us all. Unfortunately my primary idea of banning the sale and
production of all cars with 'go fast' stripes hasn't received a favourable
response from the Department for Infrastructure and Planning. ;)
Cyber_Explorer: Apart from using the internet, what exactly do you
mean by this question?
Questioner: Again, what exactly do you mean by this question?... Will
that do? :)
Philosopher: I've studied post-modernism at uni and so 'should' be
hopelessly confused about everything. However, something went horribly wrong
with my PM indoctrination and against the creed I came away with an intelligible
and communicable philosophical perspective: contingency and indeterminacy. This
has put me in a good philosophical position to gain a tenuous grasp on the
unified field theory, zero point energy and other theories relating to the
quantum physics perspective that is basis for this most exciting and liberating
philosophy of our age.
What interests do you have that you would like others to join you in?
Apart from the sheer bliss of filling out personal profiles
online? Ok, let's see, discussing the nature of existence over a good coffee or
red wine, writing/performing in plays and short films, snorkelling, taking my
Yak for walks to the park, playing squash, speculating if anyone actually reads
this far down a profile, playing chess, movies at Luna, arthouse dvd's, reading
and learning about new ideas (I've been exploring the Enneagram and quantum
physics of late), wondering why this question box is soooo large that if I don't
waffle to fill it up some people (including myself) will think I don't have a
life, enjoying picnics in many of the fabulous beauty spots we're so blessed to
have here in Perth, cycling around the Swan foreshore and to Freo, Freo itself -
just being there...
What have you done in your life that you have either been really proud of,
or really enjoyed?
In 1994 formed a community theatre company called Raynin
Theatre, which performed two plays I had written, promoting racial equality and
understanding in WA. I am also very proud of and thoroughly enjoyed my Red Cross
voluntary work as: an ESL teacher for Afghani refugee's; a drama facilitator in
children's prison; and as a ward orderly in a hospital. This is nothing of
course, compared to the absolute joy and pride that being a single dad of two
wonderful children has brought me.
What values would you like potential friends or a partner to share? Are
there any differences in the values you would require from friends as compared
to a partner, and if so, what?
I wouldn't expect friends or partners to replicate my value
system, but from what I've written above you can imagine I don't get on too well
with right wing fundamentalist conservatives, or anyone that marginalises,
belittles or attacks others rights and values.
What kind of friends / partner are you looking for?
I am looking for friends that can share a passion for ideas,
learning and creative expression, in whatever form that takes. As Charles
Emerson Winchester III once said, "I love the thrust and parry of an
intellectual joust, but would never fight an unarmed opponent." :)
Is there anything about yourself you'd like to promote? (website, business,
performances, books).
I have written and am trying to develop a feature screenplay,
so would appreciate any feedback from those willing to participate in a reading
of the script, or any network connections with directors or producers in WA.
Anything else you'd like to say?
Yes, I'm looking forward to meeting you all!
