Which of these are you? Intellectual / Idealist / Creator / Innovator / Cyber explorer /  Questioner / Philosopher.

Idealist, Creator, Questioner, Philosopher

What makes you an intellectual / idealist / creator / innovator / cyber explorer / questioner / philosopher?

Intellectual: I'm always looking for deeper meanings, patterns and answers to the things that puzzle me in my every day life. I don't take things for granted, i don't accept universal truths or follow common beliefs. Sometimes the smallest thing can become a major thinking project for me.

Idealist: It's frustrating to see how the world is run by corporations and governments. The people in charge of distributing wealth and resources are generally those least suited to it. I can see better ways to run countries, better ways for people to coexist in their individual societies. i would love to change the apathetic view point of even one person. The world needs to change, right now we're moving in the wrong direction.

Creator: I have written poetry in the past and last year i finally did something about that and published. I've sold copies in australia and germany. I'm currently working on a film script, quite a few fits and starts in the writing process. I'm very excited about it which keeps me motivated. I think it stems from a desire to communicate other perspectives on the world instead of the traditional cookie cutter, hollywood blockbuster storylines we're force fed on a weekly basis. I took the photograph that's on my poetry book and developed it myself, when i look through the view finder of a camera i don't just snap a shot at will, i compose, select angles and distance, just wish i could afford a better camera :). computer graphics interests me, i should have done more multimedia courses at uni really.

Cyber_Explorer: did a grad dip sci (IT) have 3 websites and was the website master for the gilbert and sullivan society of WA until recently. I did a number of programming units cause i wanted to know how a computer works. Artificial intelligence fascinates me and was at one time part of a Masters project which sadly due to lack of financial support had to be abandoned. I teach computing, just basic stuff. Last year i learned german in chat. i was online 8-14hours per day every day for a whole year. What can i say, i was impatient to get my german vocab. The internet is a great resource for research into any topic, for finding other materials and groups such as this one :) I love being able to lie in my bedroom in perth and communicate in another language with people in paris and berlin. I LOVE the net

Questioner: Which philosopher would approach soldiers and question their ideologies and by asking searching questions was able to change the way people live their lives? I see myself as attempting to do the same. In perth it doesn't go down too well. The usual answer is "you think too much", "don't worry about it". Just because everyone does something and it was always so, doesn't make it the best way or the right way to do things. Besides I KNOW it's not the best and right way to do things.

Philosopher: I love to learn about the philosophical view points. I did a unit in philosophy, it was just an introductory course. It was too much about premises and perfect logic which kind of put me off. I still love to debate the bigger questions. Philosophy makes me think, makes me wonder, it challenges me, stimulates me mentally. I have a philosophy of life as a pet project, it's on the back burner for the film script and requires a great deal of research.

There's an exhibition on buddism at the local art gallery in perth, i feel i'm a bit of a buddist. I decided to live my life according to the rules of karma, with my own interpretation; also pagan religion interests me, which is all about being connected with the planet, in harmony and in step with it, not a manipulator and abuser of it and its resources. Most of my exploration has been internal, trying to figure out the inter relationships and my own feelings on those interactions. One thing i know for sure, i don't have to have the answers, a set of 3 to 4 scenarios is adequate to get me by. To be happy we need to first value and love ourselves and accept our limitiations and the limitations of others and to be grateful for how far we've come in life so far and not hanker for more, just move steadily towards goals while at the same time enjoying what is good about our lives now. Don't wish, hope or dream - take action.

What interests do you have that you would like others to join you in?

My biggest interest is film i guess, so any film festivals especially german ones. independent film interests me i like films like brazil, python humour, quirky, surreal stories. I love to dance, i like electro/gothic industrial music, but there's only one venue for that in perth. laura comes up with the kinds of things i like to do, this group, the philosophy book group. i go to german meetings if anyone can speak german. contemporary art, went to the picca exhibition.

What have you done in your life that you have either been really proud of, or really enjoyed?

proud of my poetry book. my film ideas if i can ever get it written :) acting, i was an extra in a local film production, it was great fun. i put together a programme for the xmas concert for gilbert and sullivan. mostly i'm proud of how far i've come from where i started out. it doesn't matter where a person starts out, everyone has the potential to be so much more.

What values would you like potential friends or a partner to share? Are there any differences in the values you would require from friends as compared to a partner, and if so, what?

honesty, being real, respect and understanding, common interests. From a partner that's different, all of the above but much more trust, no, absolutely no advice or help unless i ask for it and cooperation. two people in an intimate relationship need to work like a team, coordinate and cooperate working towards mutual goals that benefit both parties.

What kind of friends / partner are you looking for?

i like all sorts of people as friends, i like people with different interests and views. when a person respects anothers views there is no real conflict only opinion expressed, explored and discussed. I find a partner who has similar taste in film, music and activities works out better, similar interests, but beliefs and values are also important for communication. Relationships are difficult no matter what.

Is there anything about yourself you'd like to promote? (website, business, performances, books).

my poetry book 'on reflection' www.geocities.com/onreflectionpoetry i teach computing to beginners movemovies@yahoo.com.au

Anything else you'd like to say?

there's always more to say, i may even change my mind. nobody has the answers and anyone who acts as if they know everything are exaggerating or delusional.
